TIKAL

Tikal was just what I expected. It is a large, one of the largest in the world, Mayan archaeological sites. We had to fly into Flores from Guatemala City. The Guatemalan government set aside an area in El Peten in 1990 to preserve a tropical forest that also contains the Mayan ruins. This is where we went. Really worth seeing! Some of the pyramids are over 200 feet tall and the amount of buildings that are visible are impressive. I cannot tell how many ruins are there that have not been uncovered, but the amount of land that makes up this area would indicate that there are a tremendous amount of non-excavated buildings still to be found.

We stayed at an eco resort owned by Frances Ford Coppola. It was nice, but not great. It did not have the amount of animals that we thought it would have being in a forest. And the food was less then to be desired. But the beds were really comfortable, the cabina was spacious with a terrace overlooking the water with a hammock and they had air conditioning, what else can I want.

I am now back in Antiqua. I am so glad. I really like this place. Tomorrow I will go get my blood test and then make a final decision as to whether I am returning home to Miami for further tests. One day at a time. Tonight I am going out for a good dinner, drinks and Karaoke. I will not think about what will be, can be or anything else for that matter. Like Scarlett O’Hara said in Gone With The Wind “After all tomorrow is another day!” (Actually, the last line in the movie.).
