LAYED BACK, BUT LOTS TO DO

Mexico City, as I said before is like a laid back, more innocent New York City. It has parks every where you look, it has many, many museums, it has more restaurants then most big cities, it has a coffee cafes on every block, it has bars, night clubs, dance locations in ample amount, it has less traffic then most cities, and the people are friendly and welcoming. I now understand why there are so many ex-pats living here.

Mexico City on every Sunday closes down some major roads of the City and opens the roads to bicyclists, runners and rollerblades. On Sundays they have bands, public dance lessons, kiosks for needed items for cycling and free maintenances for the bicycles, if needed. And bicycles are available in the City for free every day of the week. Pretty sweet.

RESTURANT NOTE. We went last night for dinner to the number one restaurant of all of North America, Pujol.

Did you know, Mexico is a part of North America? The restaurant’s food left much to be desired, but the service was impeccable. Expensive, but not outrageous if you happen to have enjoyed the food. I have learnt during the last four months of this trip: do not go to a place that requires you to book months in advance for a meal with a fixed menu. These restaurants are usually just hype, flash and dash and serve food that you would not even consider ordering off of a menu. The best restaurants are the restaurants that the locals eat at, require a reservation, but you can get in a day or two and who serve you from a menu. I have found many of these here in Mexico in all varieties of cuisine.

TRAVEL HEALTH NOTE. If you expect to get blood tests or any other medical tests to be done in other countries to be used to compare with your tests done in the United States, forget about it. The foreign machines, the results, their findings all differ from the tests done in the U.S. I am no longer getting blood tests done while traveling. I instead, will be heading back home for the tests about every four months. A pain to do and expensive, but it is worth the peace of mind.
